We had been looking around for a street legal 40ch CB for the NZ/Australian market. That would mean 40ch, AM/LSB/USB and a 12w single final only. No FM. Most of our export rigs have dual finals Multiple banks of 40 channels and FM in them as well to increase their appeal in the European and freeband markets. We saw these on the internet and made a deal to buy 10 of them. The boards although smd looked ok and the schemetic we were given was very similar to the good old cobra 148 circuit of old. Simple shit. Hard to get it wrong.
WRONG! They sure messed it up. From radios we were told were ex stock ready to ship the excuses began and the order was over 3 weeks late in shipping. The radios arrived and they were put through their paces. They all failed. Absolutely horrible receive, 2w AM output, SSB all over the place, rust spots, scratched cases, Screws worn from frequent use…the danger signs were all there. We complained of course. Mr Carlos Lu of bond generously agreed we could send one back for them to look at. Far out. At our expense mind you! We wanted to return the entire shipment and have our money refunded. So we are out a bunch of money and have these shit radios we now have to try to get working and sell for what we can get for them. Or sell them for scrap/parts.
Hope we have stopped someone else making the same mistake.
